GREY-FACED DARTMOOR CARDED BATTS
We have a limited amount of Grey-Faced Dartmoor fleece from Mrs Hayhurst at Aughton in the Lune Valley. Although course, this wool has a long staple and is lustrous with high lanolin content. Felting trials were surprisingly good, with the natural curl in the wool returning when finished. We still await the results of the spinning trials.

Felting InformationThe staple of this fleece is quite long and feels coarse. I wondered if it would felt! I had to take longer over the ‘setting’ as it took a while to bind. It did felt and formed a firmish, quite coarse fabric which was not particularly soft. It needed kneading in hot water for a few minutes before rolling in the cane blind to get it a little firmer and an extra 50 roll rotation to form a good solid fabric with a wavy texture though quite ‘hairy’. Would make an interesting background and could be useful in hard wearing situations. |

MIXED BAG
After the 100g bags are packed we usually have some odd amounts left over, so we put these together randomly into a 200g mixed bag of breeds and colours, ideal for sampling, creating your own blends or just letting your imagination wander. In the bag there are at least five wool types of which no more than two are white. Each type is separated and labelled for further reference. The amounts of each type are random but the minimum weight of any one is 20g.
We generally only have one or two of these mixed bags in stock, but if you can read this text it means we probably have at least one.
